New headquarter Mario Cucinella Architets
A 1930s factory is transformed into a green and creative ecosystem
The new Milan headquarters of Mario Cucinella Architects covers 800 square metres on three levels inside a former factory from the 1930s, of which the exterior façade has been preserved and the interior spaces totally redeveloped.
The interiors are characterised by balconies overlooking a central void that from level -1 reaches, thanks to a large skylight, the garden terrace. The green design developed by Greencure landscaping enhanced the existing structure by applying the principles of wellness in the workplace to the concept.
The entrance courtyard was redeveloped by emphasising the existing species: an ancient Bougainvillea runs along all the floors of the building up to the terrace while a false jasmine covers the boundary wall to the right of the main entrance. Three tubs of planters with a lawn border the entrance paths. The indoor greenery is designed to mask the work spaces, creating small oases. Six kokedama, whose species and size have been specially selected to decorate the elevated space, measure the central void of the indoor patio. The roof is a garden-terrace with species cultivated by the studio’s students, but also a place for relaxation and events.
In this place, greenery is not mere decoration, but an integral part of a vision that focuses on people, the quality of space and the profound relationship between nature and architecture. A venue that tells of the future of work: sustainable, shared, alive.
