Sicily is the island of the wind! The wind shapes the park of the New Headquarters of the Region of Sicily into fluid forms, generating a place, contemporary yet rooted in the multifaceted tradition of the Sicilian garden.
In Sicily over the centuries, man has learned to adapt and turn the wind into a resource just as the temperate climate has ensured the imprint of Eden over the centuries, even when “pulling” Sirocco winds.

It was from this pivotal element that Greencure landscaping drew inspiration for the design of the outdoor layouts of the new Region of Sicily headquarter.

The area of the New Headquarters of the Region of Sicily is a representation of the institutional, autonomous and complex power that has made the history of this land. It is located in a peri-urban context, close to the railway station with degraded green areas. But the future park of the new building implements the environmental quality of the city with its new urban vocation through the enhancement of a system of diversified and integrated green public spaces.

Specifically, greenery takes on the value:

• Ecological: of biodiversity and reduction of heat island effect, soil erosion, runoff, noise level and air pollution.
• Social: of safety and comfort with low pollen species, with promotion of recreational activities related to nature and relaxation.
• Landscape: of guiding the reading of different micro-environments related to the local context.

The entire park was designed as a green enjoyed by those who pass through it as pedestrians, but also as a green perceived from different points of view. The density of species in the tree plan creates a large space of shade, coolness and protection from the wind.

Lungo i percorsi si delineano delle stanze verdi, i belvederi che portano i nomi delle piante dominanti presenti. Essi sono il belvedere delle palme, il belvedere dei ficus e il belvedere degli eucalipti (piante esistenti). altre stanze sono l’agrumeto matematico, il teatro naturale, il playground e il giardino del vento.

Entrances to the park are located: on the axis of via Ugo la Malfa, punctuated by a row of pine trees that serve as a traffic divider between the tramway and the vehicular road; from the station to the entrance level of the building basement.

Water takes many forms and uses: from water pools in the math garden to gushing games on the pavement in the wind garden to bio-retention structures with rain gardens.
