Campo Laudato Sì
A park for the soul, science and the arts: the new heart of Caserta
A fifteen-minute walk from the Reggia di Caserta is Ma.C.Ri.Co. (Central Armoured Replacement Warehouse), an abandoned area of 324,533 square metres. From a former military garrison it will become a place for scientific, social and cultural experimentation. Drawing on the city’s history and the Royal Palace promotes Caserta as a green park for integral ecology, a social and cultural pole.
The general compositional principles combine all the useful traces and information for the usability, recovery and management of this area, reinterpreting them according to the principle of urban regeneration and making Campo Laudato Sì the Park for sustainable innovation, arts and health.
The green area is diversified into the following 4 parks.
- The Biodiversity Park in the north-east quadrant is the city’s new park. To the rigid line of the main paths and secondary avenues are articulated the green rooms: with an alternation of solids and voids of shrub masses and small trees, whose design is a reinterpretation of Vanvitelli’s parterre in the Reggia.
- The Park of the Arts in the south-east quadrant is characterised by the presence of greenhouses with cultivations of species from the Reggia. Two areas with games and sprinklers are located on the main path from the entrance at the corner of Via Unità d’Italia crosses Via Sud Piazza d’Armi to Piazza della Scienza and arrives at the historic Bishop’s Palace, the future University of Science.
- The Welcoming Park is dedicated to relaxation, to silence where greenery is at the service of the Community of the Consecrated. A sacred space also for outdoor religious celebrations.
- The Park of Care and Sport Academy is the area dedicated not only to the care of the body but also of the spirit with facilities for wellness and sport. Activities such as running or fitness trails will have their starting point here and develop in the Biodiversity Park.
The Francis Economy Village and the Science and Education Village are the heart of the masterplan. The central areas will be dedicated to the intense activities and various events related to the role of the two villages.
