Chignolo’s Wood is a forested area of 12 hectares in the public perimeter of the Regional Park of the Lambro Valley (MB) and is classified as a site of Community Bio-Italy. The recovered area with the Pinus strobus is an ecological path designed as a Therapeutical Landscape, an outdoor laboratory to learn the secrets of nature with a footpath, partly made for people with mobility difficulties. The Chignolo is a place of social well-being, relaxation, and discovery of the historical-cultural and botanical value-symbolic nature, structured guidance on the idea of the “Legend of Bard, Knight of the Wood of Chignolo”. Combining the silvicultural needs with the narration of the story you chose to project on the artificial surface of the wood the 12 positions of the Constellation of the Great Bear, called Houses of the Zodiac, to remind how the ancient man learned to orientate himself by observing stars and entrusting his fate to heaven. According to the theory of medieval Signature, each Zodiac sign is reportedly a plant and animal element that has a precise meaning and role in the story and in the area.
The species depend on the different Houses of Zodiac and some are: Taxus baccata, Pinus sylvestris, Agrifolium, Ligustrum vulgare, Euonymus europaeus or Salix viminalis, then Betula alba, Acer campestre, Carpinus betulus, Prunus avium, Cornus mas, Buxus sempervirens and more…
